Why The New Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Gray Ghost Is Not Worth The Money

35 years. That’s how long Harley-Davidson has sold the Fat Boy. This very much makes the bike an iconic piece of kit from whatever angle you look at it, and it’s a milestone worth celebrating. Doing just that, H-D has taken the wraps off the 2025 Fat Boy Gray Ghost as part of its latest edition of Icon collection. As good as that sounds, it’s not an enticing prospect. Here’s why.

The 2025 Fat Boy Gray Ghost Has Less Power Than The Fat Boy

We rarely see Icon Collection bikes have any engine related changes over the bikes they’re based on. Yet, that is the case with the Gray Ghost. It has the same Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine under the skin, but makes less power than the Fat Boy. This hurts its price-to-power ratio, even though the difference is marginal.

The 2025 Fat Boy Gray Ghost Costs Over $25,000

The Gray Ghost is part of Harley’s Icon collection. And we all know that tag never comes cheap. It’s mostly well justified, however, thanks to an army of special touches all over. Sadly, that isn’t the case here. The Gray Ghost’s highlighting feature is the chrome paint job, along with a couple of touches like emblems, a retro air cleaner, and yellow touches on the engine heads. In comparison, last year’s Hydra Glide Revival had specific and detailed upgrades all over.

So when you take into the $25,399 MSRP, there’s very little to justify the sizable $2,800 price hike over the base model Fat Boy. We’d rather suggest you save the $2,800 and instead that money into upgrades you actually need. You can get saddlebags, exhaust systems, different seats….the world will really be your oyster.
